The Crown of Thorns

The Crown of Thorns is inspired by Thomas Kelly’s 1820 hymn The Head That Once Was Crowned with Thorns, traditionally sung to the tune ST. MAGNUS, attributed to Jeremiah Clarke. Its purpose is to inspire worship, deepen contemplation of Christ’s sacrificial love, and proclaim the hope, victory, and eternal life found in union with Him.

Original Composition

The original composition brings together lyrics, melody, instrumentation, and arrangement to express personal experiences, observations, and reflections drawn from different seasons of life. Each work develops its own musical character, conveying meaning through both direct expression and the subtleties of imagery, symbolism, and interpretation.

The Crown of Thorns

Once wounded, mocked, and clothed in shame,
Now robed in majesty;
The heavens glorify His name,
The Lord of victory.

Enthroned above the heights of time,
In everlasting light;
All power and glory now are Thine,
All kingdoms own Thy might.

The hearts that rest within His love
Have found their lasting peace;
His mercy flows from realms above,
His goodness shall not cease.

The road He walked through grief and pain
Becomes our path of grace;
Through Him, our hope shall still remain
Until we see His face.

We walk with Him through earthly night,
Our hearts sustained by love;
And when our faith gives way to sight,
We’ll dwell with Him above.

The cross where mercy met our need
Has opened heaven’s door;
In Him our souls are truly freed,
Our hope forevermore.
