Large and small bodies of water have a beauty and purpose all their own. Lakes often nourish wildlife and tributaries through larger streams and rivers that descend in elevation. Ponds and tarns are a type of water collection that come and go with a greater regularity. By rainfall, run-off or evaporation and drainage, the physical make-up of such a wilderness place can become entirely different in a short period of time.
