The Skeleton Key

The Skeleton Key is about how fear, suspicion, and distorted perceptions can gradually imprison the mind, turning uncertainty into imagined threats and isolation into a false sense of security. Through images of locked rooms, mirrors, warning signs, and unanswered questions, the song confronts the tendency to mistake assumptions for truth and to interpret the world through the wounds of past experiences. At its heart is a call to self-examination, humility, and repentance, revealing that the greatest barriers to freedom may not be imposed by others, but constructed and sustained by what we have come to believe.

Original Composition

The original composition brings together lyrics, melody, instrumentation, and arrangement to express personal experiences, observations, and reflections drawn from different seasons of life. Each work develops its own musical character, conveying meaning through both direct expression and the subtleties of imagery, symbolism, and interpretation.

The Skeleton Key

You kept the curtains drawn at noon,
Called the dimness easier on the eyes.
Counted every footstep in the hall,
Gave each one a name before it passed by.

You learned the language of the lock,
The little grammar of retreat.
Even sunlight at the threshold
Had to prove why it should enter.

A glass can bend a straight line.
A mirror can return a stranger.
You knew this once.
Then forgot.

There are rooms that grow around you
Without moving any stone.
There are doors that stay wide open
While you swear you’re shut alone.

You made a kingdom out of warning signs,
Hung a crown above the doubt.
Every red light meant surrender,
Every silence meant get out.

You called the distance understanding,
Called the absence something true.
And somewhere in the darkened glass
The image started looking back like you.

You kept receipts for every wound,
Filed them neatly under proof.
A missing word became a verdict,
A passing shadow found a roof.

You read intention into weather,
Heard confession in a pause.
Built a map from broken signals,
Then blamed the road for being lost.

A bell can ring without a fire.
A siren can outlive the storm.
Still you stood beneath the sound
As though the sound itself could warn.

You made a kingdom out of warning signs,
Hung a crown above the doubt.
Every red light meant surrender,
Every silence meant get out.

You called the distance understanding,
Called the absence something true.
And somewhere in the darkened glass
The image started looking back like you.

How long can smoke remain
After nothing burns?
How long can a compass spin
Before north becomes a rumor?

How many ghosts need names
Before they count as company?
How many empty chairs
Before absence starts to speak?

You polished every pane
Until reflection passed for sight.
You kept the lantern trimmed,
Then never stepped outside.

Maybe the cruelest rooms
Are the ones without a key,
Because nothing holds you in them
Except what you believe.

No bars.
No chains.
Only the clock learning your breathing.

No judge.
No sentence.
Only the walls repeating
What you already came to hear.

You made a kingdom out of warning signs,
Hung a crown above the doubt.
Every red light meant surrender,
Every silence meant get out.

You called the distance understanding,
Called the absence something true.
And somewhere in the darkened glass
The image started looking back like you.

But glass is only glass.
Smoke is only smoke.
A bell can ring forever
After everyone has gone.

And maybe what you feared outside
Was never waiting there at all.

The curtains move.
The room stays still.
The door was never locked.

You only learned
To hear the turning key
Before anyone touched it.
