Regeneration

When a tree is felled, that is when a regeneration process of sorts begins. As trees fall into decay from exposure, the weather, and wildlife, they become a source of shelter and food for wilderness creatures. Pine needles and duff become bedding for deer and bear. They become the material birds to use among their nests. The bark provides shelter for insects. Insects that in turn become eaten by scavengers. Rough and calm winds carry bark and debris into the forest floor which in turn serves as fuel for natural wildfires that occur from time to time.

Covered Path

Along the way to a destination, sometimes the best of the time is the route on the way. Because of what the time and place bring to you. With a heart of humility, without haste, to make way for what it is to dwell at the moment.

Forest Foliage

In early Spring with the forest floor still damp, you can feel and sense the quality of this area. Just before nightfall, I was out and about the Giant Forest area in Sequoia scouting about for wildlife and unique openings to contemplate and absorb the natural settings.

Serenity

At Ten Mile Creek within Kings Canyon National Park, the range of color and the softness of the forest invite you to explore and get their good tidings. The lakes, the streams, and the rivers are all cleansing forms of energy to refresh and renew the body and soul.

Sacred Forest

When you consider the forest and its Sequoias, it hosts an endless variety of life. It is the place to return to peace and centeredness that reminds me that I am alive. That life is not just about work and personal success, but this is what it is to return to balance. To experience the wilderness is to experience the forests and what it brings to the soul.

Canopy

Sometimes the height of the trees leads your view upward. And the contrast of hues and textures leaves so much open for the imagination. The growth and population of pines in the area of Zumwalt Meadows are quite distinct in richness and quality.

Contemplative

There is a natural and contemplative beauty to Yosemite. From place to place throughout the Yosemite wilderness you come upon different moods and places of interest. Here I pause for a photo along a trail on the South Rim of the valley.

Sublimation

Being high enough among the clouds leaves you to wonder what the forest will reveal. The clouds mask and veil the depth of the wilderness to bring a sense of mystique only characteristic of the Sierra.

Subtle Light

The valley floor of Yosemite this day was filled with exhilaration. The defected light coming through the canopy of the forest created unique lighting conditions that were quite a treat. While what I saw made perfect sense, the mist burning off the forest floor brought about a natural behavior rarely seen.

Serrated

The knife’s edge of a leaf on this tree within the San Gabriel mountains looks more imposing than it really is. While coming back to trek this path a number of times, this overhanging limb remained in place season after season.

Soft Shade

Fall Colors Emerge Early in Season

With the shade and sunlight, the colors of Spring shift with the breeze only to pull on the imagination. Here in Sequoia National Park, the forest brings out shades of color that bring you in closer.

Western Sky

The sunburst here in the Western sky shows an unavoidable change. From minute to minute and hour to hour, there’s a difference in the quality of the wilderness.
