Shine Through

Another early morning through the forest near Wolverton led my partner and me through strong contrasts of shade and light. The range of colors and mood of the wilderness was a highlight of this outing. An unforgettable experience that continues to inspire me.

Eclipsed

When it’s cold and you’re tired and exposed, at times the sun break’s through to bring new warmth. New warmth and new light among storm clouds as the sun skims further toward the upper levels of the horizon below.

Storm Clouds

Above and below the three different states of nature are before you. The darkened storm clouds above, the Pacific Ocean in the distance, and the harsh San Gabriel mountains below.

Overlook

A sculpted lakes basin beneath Alta peak spreads out to invite explorers along the slopes of the Western Sierra mountains. The grandeur, the rough texture of granite, and the exquisite color and fragrance of the wilderness here attract more earnest explorers.

Morning Glow

Above the Mineral King region of the Sierra Nevada mountains are massive peaks spread out for miles. Here before you are Sawtooth and Needham mountains in the early morning hours on a route across the expansive Kaweah Canyon.

Reflection

Heather Lake in the morning light brings calm and serenity to visitors who would venture this far into the wilderness. In this natural setting, your senses are piqued as you absorb the beauty and meaning of this place.

Canopy

Sometimes the height of the trees leads your view upward. And the contrast of hues and textures leaves so much open for the imagination. The growth and population of pines in the area of Zumwalt Meadows are quite distinct in richness and quality.

Sublimation

Being high enough among the clouds leaves you to wonder what the forest will reveal. The clouds mask and veil the depth of the wilderness to bring a sense of mystique only characteristic of the Sierra.

Subtle Light

The valley floor of Yosemite this day was filled with exhilaration. The defected light coming through the canopy of the forest created unique lighting conditions that were quite a treat. While what I saw made perfect sense, the mist burning off the forest floor brought about a natural behavior rarely seen.

Obscured

A place to withdraw and contemplate, the soft Winter of the lower Sierra offers solace and a new awakening. Here the Winter forest floor at the base of Mt Hillyer keeps your senses piqued.

Unfolded

When the evening sky opens up, there is a state of wonder that comes as with scenes such as this. How the symphony and balance of light between heaven and earth unfold to hold you in place.

Solar Hue

At dusk, the clouds above the Sierra forest unfold and the sky above shines through in a brilliant display of solar hues. There’s a fire in the sky without the flames. The cast of fading color brings out the greatest drama in the Beetle Rock landscape of the Sierra.
